Glossary

What the words you see on LADER mean, in plain English.

Events

Tournament
A competition made up of divisions, usually over one or more days. Tournaments are the only events players can register for themselves.
League
An ongoing competition made up of sessions, with shared players and rankings. The organizer adds the players.
Session
A single round of play, like a club night, where matches are made up on the day. A session can stand alone or be part of a league. The organizer adds the players.
Organization
The club or business that runs the events. Its page lists its tournaments, leagues and sessions.
Tournament is listed
When this is on (it is by default), the tournament shows in search on LADER and on search engines like Google. When it's off, the tournament is unlisted: it doesn't show in search, but anyone with the link can still open it.

Tournament structure

Division
One category in a tournament that players register for, for example Mixed Doubles 3.5. Each division is Singles, Doubles or Team, and has a gender and a skill level. It can also have a spot limit, an age group and a DUPR rating range.
Stage
A part of play within a division. A Group stage is round-robin pools. A Bracket is a knockout draw. Sessions use their own stage types: Random (random matchups), Ladder (move up or down after each round) and Group. Players see a stage once the organizer publishes it (Publish Matches for groups, Publish Brackets for brackets).
Seeding
The order the organizer ranks players or teams in, to place them in groups or brackets.
Round / Rotation
One set of matches within a stage. Sessions call it a rotation.

People and roles

Player
A person's playing profile on LADER. An organizer can add a player before that person has a LADER account. The person links it to their account when they accept the invitation.
TBD
Shown in place of a partner who hasn't been named yet.
Entry
One registration in one division. Registering for three divisions makes three entries.
Roles
The organization roles are Super Admin and Administrator. The tournament roles are Administrator, Moderator and Scorekeeper. Referees are added separately to score matches. Everyone with an organization role becomes a tournament Administrator when a tournament is created.

Registration

Enable Registrations
The switch that opens registration, in Registration Settings → Availability. Players can only register when it's on, the registration dates are open, the organization's payment account is connected, and pricing is set.
Spot
One place in a division. The organizer sets a division's spot limit under Spots available. A division with a limit shows how many spots are taken (for example "12/16") and how many are left ("4 left"), or Full. Other divisions show No spot limit and never fill up.
Spot reserved
Once you choose your divisions, your spots are reserved for 15 minutes while you finish registering ("Spot reserved – 15 minutes to complete"). In the last 2 minutes, an Add 5 minutes link appears, which you can use once. If time runs out, click Check Availability to reserve the spots again (if they're still free), or Discard Registration to start over. When you're claiming a waitlist spot, the spot is reserved until the deadline in your waitlist offer instead, and you can't add time.
Waitlist
A line of players waiting for a spot in a full division. The organizer turns it on for each tournament. Joining is free. Team divisions don't have waitlists.
Waitlist offer
The message you get when a spot opens up for you on a waitlist. The spot is yours if you claim it before the deadline. Claiming means finishing your registration and paying. In Automatic mode, offers go out in order. In Manual mode, the organizer sends them.
Claim window
How long a player has to claim a waitlist offer before it goes to the next person in line. The organizer sets it in hours. The default is 24 hours, and the most is 336 hours (14 days).
Partner invitation
When you register for doubles, you name your partner. They get an email invitation after you submit your registration, and it also shows under the notification bell. They can accept or decline it. Invitations don't expire.
Registration form
The organizer's questions, answered on the Player Details step. New tournaments start with email, phone number and date of birth. Your previous answers to the same questions are pre-filled.
Waiver
A document from the organization (for example, a liability release) that each player must read and accept. Each player accepts for themselves, during registration or later from My Registration. If the organizer changes a waiver's terms, players may need to accept it again.
My Registration
Your page for a tournament, opened with Manage Registration on the tournament page. It shows your status, your divisions, your waitlists, your form answers, your waivers and your Balance.
Registration complete / Registration incomplete
Your status on My Registration. Registration incomplete means something on your side is still missing: form answers, a waiver, a payment, a membership or a DUPR connection. Withdrawn means the organizer has removed you.
Awaiting partner completion
Shown on a doubles division when your partner still has something to do, such as accepting the invitation or paying their share.
Check-in labels
At check-in, organizers see what each player is missing: Form incomplete, Payment due, Membership missing, DUPR required, Waiver not accepted or Roster incomplete.

Money

Registration fee
What a division costs. The organizer sets a Registration Fee Per Division and can Set Fee for Specific Divisions. On a player's Balance it's shown as Entry fee. Each entry keeps the price it was registered at.
Early bird discount
A lower price that ends on a date the organizer sets.
Multi-division discount
A discount on a player's 2nd, 3rd, 4th division and so on. It never reopens or refunds a balance that's already paid.
Coupon
A code a player enters on Review and Submit with Add coupon code. A coupon can apply to certain divisions only. If the organizer turns on Waive platform fees for a coupon, it also waives the platform fee, and LADER bills the organization for that fee instead.
Platform fee
LADER's fee, separate from the registration fee. It's shown as its own Platform fee line on Review and Submit, and the player pays it, even when the division is free. It's 2.50 in the tournament's currency (HK$15 for HKD, ฿60 for THB) per division entry, up to two fees per player per tournament. An organization's agreement with LADER may set a different fee.
Balance
The section on My Registration that shows what a player owes. Charged is the total, Paid is what they've paid, and Outstanding is what's left to pay.
Payment account
The organization's Stripe account, connected by a Super Admin under Admin → Payment Account. Registration can't open until it's connected.
Financials
The tournament's money page. It shows what's been billed, collected, credited and refunded, what's still outstanding, and every payment.

DUPR

DUPR
A pickleball rating system, separate from LADER. Players connect their DUPR account with Connect DUPR, in the menu under their profile picture.
DUPR rating range (DUPR gating)
A rating range on a division, for example "3.25–4.25". When the organizer turns on Enforce DUPR rating ranges, players can only enter divisions that match their rating. NR means not rated yet.
Require DUPR Connection
When the organizer turns this on, players must connect DUPR to register. Registration then has a Connect Your DUPR step marked Required.

Memberships

Membership tier
A membership an organization sells, like an annual club membership. Each tier has one or more periods (how long the membership lasts).
Membership requirement
A rule that players must hold a certain membership to register for a tournament. It can be one of the organization's membership tiers on LADER, or a membership from somewhere else. Players can get the membership while they register.
