Set up a league

How to set up a league on LADER: create the league, choose who helps run it, add your players, and schedule the season's sessions. When you're done, your league has a public page, a roster and a session for every week of the season. To run the sessions and read the league ranking, see Run league sessions and the league ranking.

Before you start

  • An organization on LADER where you're an Administrator. Leagues are hosted by an organization, and only its Administrators can create one. If you don't have an organization yet, click Create in the top bar and choose Start with an organization.
  • Your list of players. Players can't sign up for a league themselves: there's no sign-up link or join button. You add every player.

Quick steps

  1. Go to Create → League, fill in the form, and click Create League.
  2. Under Management → League Roles, add anyone who helps you run the league, and set Players can submit scores for matches they play in before you schedule sessions.
  3. Under Management → Manage Players, click Add Player for each player.
  4. Under Sessions, click Add Multiple, choose Every week, set Players to add to All singles players from league, and click Submit.

Step-by-step

1Create the league

Click Create in the top bar and choose League ("Recurring play with standings"). On the New League form:

  • Host: the organization that runs the league (Select an organization you manage). If you manage only one organization, it's already selected.
  • General: League name, League URL (filled in from the name; it's your league page's address, lader.sport/league/<url>), Location, and the season's Start date, Start time, End date and End time. The location starts as your organization's address, and the league's time zone comes from it.
  • Media: an optional Cover Image for the league's page.
  • Description: optional, shown on the league's page.
  • Contact: at least one email address (your account email is filled in for you), and optional phone numbers. Contact details are shown publicly.
  • Discoverability: League is listed is on by default. A listed league appears in search on LADER. An unlisted league can still be viewed by anyone who has the link.
  • Players can submit scores for matches they play in is on by default. See step 2.

Click Create League. You see "Your league was successfully created!" and land on the league's home page.

More help: do the season dates create sessions?

No. The start and end dates describe the season: they're shown on the league's page and players' dashboards, and Add Multiple suggests them when you schedule sessions. You create the sessions yourself in step 4.

2Set roles and player score reporting

In the league's sidebar, open Management → League Roles. The page is Roles & Permissions.

Everyone on your organization's team is already an Administrator of the league. To add someone else, search for them (they need a LADER account), pick a Role and click Add Role. The Role Descriptions card explains each role:

  • Administrator: full access to the league and its settings.
  • Moderator: manages players, sessions and matches, but not League Settings or League Roles.
  • Scorekeeper: can enter the score of any match.

Roles reach every session in the league, including sessions that already exist.

Under Permissions, Players can submit scores for matches they play in decides whether players can enter their own scores. Set it before you schedule sessions: each session copies the setting when it's created, so changing it later only affects sessions you create afterwards. To change it for an existing session, open that session's Session Roles page.

3Add players

Open Management → Manage Players and click Add Player. On the New Player form:

  • To add a player your organization already has, start typing their name or email under Player ("Search existing players by name or email, or create a new player.") and pick them from the list.
  • To add someone new, type their First name and Last name. Add their Email to invite them: "Adding an email will send the player an invitation to join LADER and your league."

Tick Stay on page after submission to add more players to add several in a row, and click Add Player each time. You see "Player created successfully".

More help: why invite players by email?

A player who accepts their invitation has their LADER account linked to their league profile. Only linked players can enter their own scores (when score reporting is on) and see the league on their dashboard. Players added with only a name can still play in sessions and be ranked. You can invite them later (see Invitations below).

To remove a player, use Remove Player on their row in Manage Players. Removing a player also removes any doubles pair they're in, and they drop out of the league ranking.

4Schedule the season's sessions

Open Sessions in the sidebar (Manage Sessions). To create every session of the season at once, click Add Multiple:

  • Recurrence: Every week (or Every day). Weekly sessions fall on the weekday of the From date.
  • From and To: the first and last session dates.
  • Start time, End time and Location.
  • Players to add: choose All singles players from league to copy your roster into every session. This field starts blank, so don't skip it.

Check the preview ("Every {weekday} from {start} to {end}" and "{n} sessions will be created") and click Submit. You can create up to 52 sessions at a time.

For a one-off session, click New Session instead. It has the same fields for a single Date, plus an optional name: "Sessions are named after the date by default, but you can customize it."

To change a session's date, time or location (after a rain-out, say), open the ⋯ menu on its card and choose Edit session. To delete sessions, use Delete session in the same menu, or tick several and click Delete.

Doubles pairs

If your league plays in fixed pairs, add the pairs under Management → Manage Doubles. Pairs only play in the Groups format, which has its own guide and video: see Run Groups (singles or fixed pairs).

Invitations

On Manage Players, click the pencil (Edit Player) on a player's row to see their invitation:

  • Invitation Pending: the invitation was sent and not answered yet. Use Edit Invitation to send it to a different email address or LADER user instead (the current invitation is revoked), or Revoke Invitation to cancel it.
  • Invitation Declined: the player declined. Click Send New Invitation to try again.
  • Invite a player to claim this profile: no invitation was sent (the player was added with only a name, or the invitation was revoked). Click Invite Player, choose the Invitation type (Email or User), and click Send Invitation.

Invitations don't expire. The email comes from your organization, with the subject "{Organization} invited you to {League}", and the player accepts it with Complete Registration.

What updates automatically, and what doesn't

Change Existing sessions
A new host organization, or a league role added, changed or removed Updated
League name, location, time zone, contact details, listing or score reporting Not updated. Each session copies them when it's created; change an existing session in its own Session Settings or Session Roles
A player added to the league Not added. In each session, use Session Players → Add Player/Pair → Players/pairs from a league
A player removed from the league Stays in sessions that already have them. They drop out of the league ranking, and their doubles pairs are deleted

Change settings or delete the league

Open Management → League Settings to change the host, the general details, the cover image, the description or the contact details. Each section has its own Save Changes button. League is listed saves as soon as you switch it. The player score reporting switch is on League Roles, not here.

To delete the league, scroll to the bottom of League Settings, tick the acknowledgement and click Delete League, then confirm. The acknowledgement says all data associated with the league will be permanently deleted, but the league's sessions are kept: they become standalone sessions. Pending invitations are cancelled for players who don't belong to anything else.

Export the roster

On Manage Players, click Export Data to download the roster as a spreadsheet (CSV). On a phone, open Import/Export and choose Export Data.

Troubleshooting

A player I added isn't in my sessions. Sessions copy the league's players when they're created. Open the session, go to Session Players → Add Player/Pair → Players/pairs from a league, and pick them.

"This player is already in your league". They're on the roster already. Find them with Filter players... on Manage Players.

A player can't enter their own score. They need a linked account (they accepted an invitation), and score reporting has to be on for that session. Check the session's Session Roles page: changing the league's setting doesn't change sessions that already exist.

I can't see League Settings or League Roles. Only Administrators see them. Moderators see Sessions, Manage Players and Manage Doubles.
